Family Fun Day raises £400 for charity

A Family Fun Day held on Sunday near Newquay has raised £400. Almost 70 families attended the Family Open Day at Sands Resort Hotel in Porth which was organised to raise money for local charity CHICKS and the Ubombo Children’s Care Village in South Africa.

Visitors enjoyed the sunshine whilst making the most of the hotel’s facilities including the outdoor play areas, Crazy Golf, Tennis and the indoor pool. Further entertainment was provided by local family attractions who donated their time in support of the family fun day.

‘Dazy the Cow’ from Dairyland Farmworld attended to have her picture taken with children visiting the open day. Newquay Zoo brought some of their smaller animals that families could learn more about. Cirque du Ciel ran a circus skills workshop for all the family and the Heron Tennis Centre offered lessons for 5 – 12 year olds. Young mums or dads and their babies were given the opportunity to take part in a taster session held by Cornwall Baby Massage. Families having lunch were treated to live music presented by Dani from DNA. The fun day closed with Martin Holme’s Chain Reaction Kids’ Disco with children and their parents hitting the dancefloor.

In addition to a suggested donation of £2 per family, a raffle with many prizes donated by Sands Resort Hotel and other local businesses helped to raise further funds.

Leeanne Armstrong, General Manager at Sands Resort Hotel said: “It’s been a fantastic day and it was great to see so many families joining us for our Family Fun Day. We would also like to thank all our local partners who donated their time and helped to make the day a huge success.”
