At Ocean Breeze Spa we are regularly being asked if alcohols are bad for your skin. Here is what our spa therapists say:
There are many advantages and disadvantages of using alcohols in skincare products but in doubt natural and organic ingredients are best for the skin!
Before buying a skincare product always check the ingredients list and try to avoid buying products that show alcohol listed near the top. It is said that the average woman absorbs up to 2kg of chemicals each year from toiletries and skincare products. Although alcohols can be of good use when it comes to anti-bacterial purposes, having them in your skincare routine can do more harm than good.
Alcohols can effectively break down the skin’s natural barrier, destroying the substances that keep your skin healthy over the long term. Once your barrier is affected, your skin just isn’t quite the same and won’t be as good at protecting itself from further damage. They can also trigger ‘Free-Radical; damage. The very thing that keeps your skin looking youthful and healthy.
With this in mind, using all natural products for your daily routine will keep your skin at its best. At Ocean Breeze Spa near Newquay we use local, organic products containing natural ingredients like rose, vanilla and calendula.
