A few tips that will help you stick to your New Year’s resolution
Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to get fit and lose a few pounds? Although it’s one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions to be made every year, many people give up very quickly. So how can you make it happen?
Here are a few tips from our personal trainer Rosie Malcolm at FitClub gym near Newquay to help you stay motivated:
Make a plan and stick to it
Be realistic about how often you can make time to go to the gym. Start with twice or three times a week, plan in advance on which days you will go to the gym and stick to it, no excuses. Remember: “If it’s important, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse!”
Set short time goals and reward yourself
Set yourself achievable goals i.e. go to the gym twice a week for a month. Once you have achieved your goal reward yourself with a massage or manicure at the Spa or buy that new pair of jeans that wouldn’t have fit you a month ago.
Bring a friend
Buddying up with a friend can help you stay motivated and make your gym session more entertaining. After your workout the two of you could enjoy a healthy lunch on the Atlantic terrace, amazing sea views included.
Get advice from the expert
When joining the gym you will get free advice from our fitness instructor who can also help you with a fitness plan, tailor made for you. After four weeks of joining your fitness plan and progress will be reviewed to ensure that you get the most out of your gym sessions.
Make it a habit
Ending your workout with a treat, i.e. a few relaxing minutes in the pool or the steam room will help you to make going to the gym an enjoyable experience. Once it has become a habit your brain will be craving the exercise (at the gym) that leads up to the treat (steam room).
Listen to music
Create your “gym playlist” with all your favourite tunes. Especially upbeat music can be a huge motivator and will help you feel great about your gym session.
Change your workout frequently
Going to the gym can get boring very quickly if you always do the same workout. Make sure you frequently change it and focus on training different parts of the body each time.
Invest in a personal trainer
If you still find it hard to stay motivated why not book a personal trainer for a few sessions. Rosie Malcolm, our resident personal trainer at our gym near Newquay has many years of experience and can help you to get in shape.
Change your diet
For best results make sure you don’t just exercise regularly but also switch to a healthy diet. Cut out processed food, eat lots of fruits and veggies and drink at least 2 litres of water daily.
