The lovely town of St. Ives is a 40-minute drive from Sands Resort Hotel. A cute harbour, with 4 perfect beaches in the middle of town and pretty fishing boats.
Parking can be difficult during school holidays. Alternatively use the well signposted Park and Ride System from St Erth, Lelant or Tregenna Castle Hotel just outside of town. Park here easily and enjoy one of Cornwall’s prettiest train rides round Carbis Bay. You’ll arrive above Porthminster beach.
The Tate gallery is small enough to hold young attention spans and has a good café on the top floor with fantastic views. When you buy tickets ask about the children’s art events that run in the gallery and on the beach.
Buy a joint ticket for the Tate & Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, which is a short walk through the middle of town. This is also small, packed with large, simple, granite sculptures, which are touchable & appealing to kids.
St.Ives Town itself is packed with craft shops, unique galleries, cafés and restaurants. Take your pick from many of the fish restaurants for lunch and enjoy fishing for crabs on the harbour with an ice cream.
