Places to visit in Cornwall – Looe & The Monkey Sanctuary

Holidays in Cornwall are not just great for days on the beach, there are lots of places to visit in Cornwall and attraction to discover around the county. Why not take a drive and explore a little bit?

Take the picturesque drive to the Harbour and fishing town of Looe (about 1 ¼ hour drive from Sands). The twin towns of East and West Looe face each other across a river and are joined by a bridge. With narrow streets and a medieval guildhall -now a delightful museum, and the second largest fishing fleet in Cornwall.

Right in front of the town is the beach, with lots of rock pools to explore.

Fancy an all day wreck fishing trip? “All tackle supplied, keep all you catch”. Or just a half-hour trip around the Bay in a speedboat? Go shark fishing, have a picnic on St Georges Island, be amazed at marine life viewed from a glass-bottomed boat, how about a sail in a real Cornish lugger, or a motor cruise along the coast to Fowey or Mevagissey? Sit outside in the late afternoon sun, with a Cornish cream tea or enjoy a relaxed meal in one of the many seafood restaurants.

Also ideal for your family holiday in Cornwall is a visit to the Monkey Sanctuary situated in beautiful woodlands overlooking Looe Bay. The Sanctuary is home to a colony of 14 woolly monkeys. Explore the park in which they are kept and enjoy a light snack in their vegetarian café.
