FAQ's

To make preparations for your next Cornwall holiday a little easier, we have answered all frequently asked questions below. Can't find what your looking for? Simply contact us and a member of staff will be happy to help.

Can I use the gym?

Our gym is open daily from 7 am – 10 pm and can be used by hotel guests anytime.

Where can I find the bottle sterilisers and bottle warmers?

Bottle sterilisers and bottle warmers can be hired free of charge for the length of your stay.Just ask at reception. We also have a microwave near the buffet area of our restaurant that you can use to heat up milk, water and baby jars. Unfortunately we can’t allow any microwaves in the rooms.

At what time do you serve breakfast, lunch and dinner?

How can we access the free bodyboard and wetsuit hire?

Wetsuits and bodyboards are available for use from “The Surf Shack”; please speak to the reception team. Boards and wetsuits are free to use but must be returned at the end of each day and cleaned in the water tank outside the surf shack. Please book your equipment back in at reception as if it is kept out overnight or is not checked back in it may incur rental charges.

Do you have children buggies that we can rent?

Buggies and Kiddie carriers can be borrowed free of charge from reception. They must be returned each evening and booked in at reception. If not a rental charge will apply. You can also hire 3-wheeler all terrain and double buggies for £5 per day.

Do you have a babysitting service?

Sands Resort Hotel doesn’t have a babysitting service but we have a pool of babysitters who we can contact for you if you ask for a babysitter prior to your arrival. Fees start at £10 per hour for one child.

How does the free Baby Listening Service work?

Baby Listening is available each evening from 7 pm – 11 pm via the monitor in your room. Please press the red button to activate the system and check in with Reception. At reception there will be a member of staff dedicated to baby listening who will immediately pick up on any sounds coming from your room and who will come and find you if your child needs you. Please note that parents who use the baby listening service have to stay on the hotel premises at all times.

How can I find out about events & entertainment at Sands?

The weekly schedule for entertainment and events for adults and children is located on the entertainment board opposite the Indoor Swimming Pool. Some events need signing up for. These events can be booked at reception. More information about our Kids’ Clubs and the full entertainment programme can be found here.

Can I rent DVDs?

If you are on holiday with children they might like our range of kids DVDs. These can be hired from Reception for a £5 deposit. Your deposit will be added to your bill and taken off once the DVD or games have been returned.

Can we bring our dog?

Unfortunately dogs (or other pets) with the exception of guide dogs, are not allowed at Sands.

Do you have WiFi?

Free WiFi is available everywhere in the hotel.

Is there a lift?

Unfortunately there are no lifts at Sands Resort Hotel but we will always have a porter ready to help you carry your luggage to the room.

Do you have pool towls that we can borrow?

You can borrow pool towels free of charge from reception. Please don’t take them to the beach as the sand ruins our washing machines.

Where is the closest beach?

The closest beach is Porth Beach which is only a 5 mins walk from Sands (If you are on holidays with children it might take a bit longer). Watergate Bay is another beautiful beach which is a 5 mins drive from Sands Resort Hotel or a nice 15 – 10 minutes walk along the beautiful coastal path.

Do you serve baby food?

If you have booked dinner and you are on holidays with little children you can choose up to 2 jars of baby food per dinner (just ask your waiter or waitress to find out which flavours are available). Please note that the jars can’t be taken out of the restaurant. In addition we can also purée any dish from our dinner menu for your little one. The restaurant also has a microwave that can be used to heat up jars, milk and water.

BASICS TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE

The health and safety of our staff and guests comes first. We have put a number of measures in place to make you feel safe and relaxed during your stay.

Please help us by:

  • always keeping your distance – 1 metre is good, 2 metres are better!
  • wearing face covers in all public areas of the hotel (unless you are exempt)
  • not gathering with more than six people (rule of six)
  • only sending one person to reception or calling from your room where possible
  • pre-booking all your meals times and/or takeaways
  • following our one-way systems
  • and of course, washing your hands and disinfecting frequently (sanitisers are provided around the hotel)


Not feeling well? Be kind and protect our other guests by visiting some other time.

CHECK-IN

Arrive – Disinfect your hands - Check-In – Relax and start your holiday

  • You will find disinfectant by the entrance. Please disinfect your hands before checking-in.
  • Only one person of your party checks-in at reception. Your friends and family may wait in the car or relax outside in our gardens where they can make sure to keep the required 1 metre distance to other guests.
  • Our electronic room keys will be handed to you freshly disinfected. Our reservation staff will be greeting you from behind a protective plastic screen.
  • You will be given a sanitised folder with essential paperwork to take to your room.
     
CHECK-OUT
  • To help us avoid queues at reception, why not settle your bill on the evening before your departure?
  • Please only send one person of your party to reception for check-out.
RESTAURANT & BAR
  • To run our restaurants safely you will be required to book a seating time for meals. Please email us to pre-book your meal times.
  • Breakfast is served between 7:30 and 9:30. You can collect cereals, croissants, yoghurts, and fruit from a manned service area.
  • Drinks and hot food will be served to your table.
  • Alternatively, you can order a take-away continental breakfast to be enjoyed in the comfort of your room by filling out an order form and handing it to reception the night before. Delivered after 08:15 am.
  • Lunch will be served between 12:00 and 14:00 in our Beachcomber restaurant.
  • Dinner is served between 17:30 and 20.15.
  • In line with government guidelines the restaurant and bar will be closed at 10 pm.
  • Please note that each room can only reserve one dinner space per day. Should you choose to dine at a different time than your children, one of the meals would have to be enjoyed as a take-away menu.
  • We are operating a slightly reduced menu compared with previous years.
  • We have a limited take-away room service menu. Take-away meals will be delivered in a box to your room.
  • Please follow the one-way system for arrival and departure.
  • Disinfectant has been placed by the entrance of the restaurant. Please use it before entering the restaurant.
  • We have spread out the tables in the restaurant to adhere to the government guidelines and offer your increased safety.
  • A maximum of six people in a family or friends can eat on one table. (Rule of six)
  • We will provide a table service from our bar for drinks or you can purchase drinks from a distanced order spot.
POOLS & GYM
  • Our indoor pool and outdoor pools are open and are for the use of hotel residents only.
  • Guests will be able to enjoy our pools which are bookable for one 25-minute session per family, per day for each pool. 
  • A maximum of 6 people in any lane.
  • We have 2 lanes open in our indoor pool and outdoors the plunge pool and a kids fun-pool giving 4 swim zones in total.
  • Extra swims can be taken if the pools are empty.
  • You will need to bring gowns and slippers as there will be no changing rooms, steam rooms or showers.

    Keep fit at the gym
    The gym is also open and can be pre-booked at reception. Only four guests can use the gym at the same time. 
ACTIVITIES
  • All activities available during your stay will be in line with government health & safety guidelines and we will be following a strict protocol with regards to hygiene and social distancing.
  • All our outdoor sport facilities, tennis, mini tennis, basketball, table tennis, football, mini golf, zip wire and playgrounds that allow for a 1 metre distance will be available. Families can enjoy some quality time together at our Arts & Crafts Club.
  • Our indoor fairground and the soft play are available in 25 minute sessions with only one family allowed in per session, bookable at reception.
  • In line with the latest government advice we can't currently offer our usual holiday entertainment programme.
  • We regret that we no longer offer children’s clubs however our in-room baby listening service is available in the evenings.
ROOMS
  • All rooms will be thoroughly cleaned and fogged with disinfect before your stay.
  • Critical touchpoints like remote controls, light switches etc. are being given an extra wipe down and disinfect.
  • We will not service your room during your stay unless you stay 5 days or longer.
  • We have laundry bags for you and you can request extra towels. You will also receive an order sheet that you can leave outside your room to get extra tea, coffee, toilet paper, cups etc. Please leave your rubbish tied up outside your door.
  • There won't be any brochures, pads, pens, menus or information booklets in your room.
  • Please find the room booklet and restaurant menus online. If you require a printed version, please speak to reception.
SPA
  • Our Ocean Breeze Spa is open from Wednesdays to Sundays and currently operates with a reduced treament list in line with government restrictions.
  • Rooms are deeply sanitised after each client.
  • We kindly ask you to wear a facial covering when visiting the spa. We have facial coverings available if you do not have your own.
  • Bookings can be made at reception or by calling us on 01637 872864. All treatments are subject to availability.
  • Treatment bookings must be a minimum of 40-minutes in total.
  • Treatments must be paid for in full upon booking to avoid traffic in the reception area.
  • You must arrive 5 minutes before for your spa treatment. Unfortunately, our relaxation room is closed due to social distancing so we require you to exit the spa once your treatment has ended.
  • We are unable to serve any refreshments, so please bring your own.
  • We kindly ask you to wear a facial covering when visiting the spa. We have facial coverings available if you do not have your own.
  • You will be contacted 24 hours before your treatment to complete a mandatory Covid-19 Screening Form.
  • Rooms are deeply sanitised after each client in line with government guidelines.
TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
  • If you live in an area that is currently on lockdown with travel restrictions put in place by the government, please contact us to either postpone your stay to a later date or to receive a full refund of your deposit. 
DEPOSITS, REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS
  • A 25% deposit will be taken at the time of booking.
  • Deposits will immediately be refunded or transferred to a later date if we can't provide the service you booked or if travel restrictions are imposed, making it impossible for you to travel or you live in a Tier-3 area.
  • Guests who have booked direct to stay before 26th March 2021 can cancel or postpone their stay up to 24 hours before arrival completely free of charge.
  • Stays after that date can be cancelled for free up to 3 weeks before arrival. 
  • If you booked with a third party company different terms & conditions may apply. Please check back with the company you originally booked with.
DAY GUESTS
  • To limit the number of guests using our facilities and to keep everyone safe, we won’t be able to welcome day guests to the pool, gym or restaurant until further notice.
