Hair by Jodie Young giving Haircuts to the Homeless
In November and December, we will be supporting Jodie Young, who’s hair salon Hair by Jodie Young is based at Sands Resort in raising vital funds for homeless people in Cornwall.
After Jodie watched a BBC documentary which really touched her she decided to help and got in touch with St Petroc’s Society, a charity supporting single homeless people in Cornwall.
Jodie said: “It’s easy for people like us to judge and get on with our busy lives when we see a homeless person, but none of us know their stories and why they are homeless.
I feel that it is our duty as human beings to try our best to help one another and be grateful for the things in our lives that we take for granted. Such as a roof over our heads, hot water, heating, beds to sleep in, family that love us, food in our fridge, running water, the list is endless.”
We couldn’t agree more!
Jodie and her team are hoping raise awareness and lots of funds through several fundraising activities and an event held in December, so they can help those in need.
On 3rd December Jodie will offer free haircuts for the homeless in collaboration with St Petroc’s Society. Employers of the charity will spread the word about the event and arrange transport for those interested in taking part.
Sands Resort will be providing hot chocolates, mince pies and turkey & cranberry rolls on the day and Newquay musician Tommy Armstrong will be performing live Christmas music at the event.
What’s more? Jodie has organised not one, but two raffles with some fantastic prizes to be won, including a voucher for a Moroccan Spa Experience for 4, a dinner voucher for our Beachcomber Restaurant and a 3-month gym membership as well as a voucher for Cut, Blow Dry and Colour at her salon, a restaurant voucher for Rick Stein’s St Petroc’s Bistro and more. The prizes are worth up to £450!
Raffle tickets are £1.50 or £5 for a strip and can be purchased at the hair salon or at our spa.
Jodie has also initiated a clothes collection. During the cold Winter months St Petroc’s is in urgent need of the following items:
- Sleeping bags!
- Sauce pans
These will be collected in the reception area at Sands in the run up to Christmas until 22nd December and any donations would be much appreciated.
But that’s not all. In addition to all her other fundraising activities Jodie has also committed to donating all her December tips collected at her salon to St. Petroc’s.
